The Hayward Hurricanes boys golf team won the WIAA sectional tournament Wednesday May 29 at Turtleback in Rice Lake and is advancing to the state tournament at University Ridge in Madison June 3-4.
Hayward finished with 317 strokes at Turtleback, while Osceola took second with 324 and also advanced to state.
Altoona’s Gabby Curtiss shot a 75 at Turtleback and advanced to state as an individual. Osceola’s Mike Henck was second with a 76, while Hayward freshman Michael McDonald tied for third with a 77. Also shooting 77 were Dan Cronick of Osceola and Evan Lunda of Unity (qualified for state as an individual). Hayward’s Joe Rady finished with a 78 to tie for sixth place, while Jordan Duffy tied for 11th with 79. Jake McCusker shot 83 to place 20th, and Max Discher shot 88 to tie for 37th.
Qualifying for state as an individual was Bloomer’s Noah Price, who shot 78 and won a playoff with three other players.
Behind the top two teams were Somerset, 329; Bloomer, 336; Ellsworth, 338; Arcadia, 347; Amery, 348; Altoona, 348; Northwestern, 351; West Salem, 351; Lakeland, 365; and Tomahawk, 369.
